Skan Automotive started out as Skan4x4 in 2008, a family business with just 3 employees with a background in automotive engineering and we specialised in the dismantling and supply of 4x4 parts, the majority of which were from the Land Rover Discovery.
By 2010 owners of non Land Rover vehicles became aware of our reputation for the supply of quality parts, professionally removed, in a manner that makes it easy for the customer to refit , this led to requests for parts for other makes and models. A decision was made to diversify and we began to offer parts for other 4x4 models such as Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200, Jeep Cherokee to name a few.
Very quickly we became known for specialising in our expanded range of makes and models and gained a large number of trade customers, a good selection of export clients along with increased repeat custom from the home mechanic.
In 2014 Skan 4x4 expanded to occupy the other half of the building we once shared which allowed us to double our workshop dismantling capacity and dedicate more space for parts storage and dispatch operations. Along with this increase in physical size came the need for more hands on deck to process, sell and dispatch our items. From our humble beginnings with 3 Land Rovers to dismantle we now support more than 12 makes and models and hold more than 4000 tested and warrantied parts in stock at any time ready for immediate dispatch to anywhere in the world.
From 2014 to date we have branched out again and increased the range of makes and models that we specialise in, As well as maintaining our 4x4 stocks, over the last 3 years we have introduced models such as Ford Focus ST, Ford Fiesta ST, Honda Civic Type R, BMW Z4, Mercedes SLK, the decision to include the hot hatch / sports car market has lead us to change our name to the more appropriate Skan Automotive.
Since the very beginning our focus has been on supplying properly tested and expertly removed parts backed up with a comprehensive warranty and unrivalled customer service. To achieve this, all the vehicles we buy are run and driven where ever possible and our skilled workshop staff often invest a lot of man hours and parts into a vehicle in run & drive them and test all components before we actually start working on it to dismantle it. We do this because we only supply the quality of parts that we would like to buy ourselves.
Operating in a legal and compliant way is important to us, both personally and as a business. We are fortunate enough to live and work in a beautiful part of the world and we want to carry out our business in such a way that we don’t leave a blot on the landscape. To allow us to do this and ensure that we exceed the requirements imposed on us we have a comprehensive internal and external training programme which allows us score extremely well in our annual Environment Agency inspections, retain our WAMITAB Certified status, along with ELV Authorised Treatment Facility License, These qualifications and accreditations allow us to continue to operate a fully legal and compliant dismantling site.
If you are reading this you will be looking on our website, this our first website that the customer can buy from, this will allow us to increase our future sales and provide a more personal level of customer service due to the less restrictive nature of the selling platform when compared to the likes of eBay for example.
Skan Automotive continues to grow year on year both in terms of the vehicles we support and also the volume of business we do, we don’t want to become a huge concern with tens of staff members and hundreds of thousands of items in stock because you simply cant provide the quality personal service that we currently do when you become that size; maintaining that service level is important to us.
The next few years will no doubt see a rise in the electric/hybrid vehicle market and this is an area of the sector that we have not been involved in to date but rest assured, it is the future of personal motoring; it is an area we will be looking into in the years to come. In the mean time we will continue to do what we do best, supply top quality parts at a competitive price and continue to support our loyal customers by gradually increase the range of vehicles we support.
